Google Ads vs Meta Ads: which one fits your business?

Google often captures existing intent; Meta can create and shape demand. The right mix depends on the buying journey, offer and measurement quality.

"Should we run Google or Meta?" is the wrong first question. The better one is: are people already searching for what you sell? The answer decides where your first budget should go.

The core difference

  • Google Ads captures existing demand. Someone types "dental implants Alexandria" or "fabric ducts Riyadh", and your ad appears at the moment they are looking.
  • Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) creates demand. You reach people by interests, behavior and lookalikes before they search, and persuade them with visuals and video.

When Google usually wins

  • Urgent or high-intent needs: clinics, maintenance, legal and B2B services.
  • Products people already know by name.
  • Markets where buyers compare options before deciding.

When Meta usually wins

  • New products or categories people do not search for yet.
  • Visual products: fashion, food, furniture, beauty.
  • Offers, launches and seasonal campaigns that need reach fast.
  • Lead generation with instant forms or WhatsApp, which works especially well in Egypt and the Gulf.

Why most businesses need both

Meta builds awareness and fills the top of the funnel; Google catches the same people when they are ready to search. Retargeting on both closes the loop. A common starting point: put most of the budget on the channel that matches your demand type, keep a smaller test budget on the other, then shift spend every 2–4 weeks based on cost per qualified lead, not clicks.

Measure the right thing

  • Install GA4, the Meta Pixel with the Conversions API, and Google Ads conversion tracking before spending.
  • Track qualified leads or sales in your CRM, not just form fills.
  • Compare channels on cost per qualified lead and revenue, because each platform reports its own results generously.
